Carbondale Police arrest armed suspect following reported threats

CARBONDALE, Ill. (KBSI) — An 18-year-old Carbondale man was arrested in the evening of April 7. This came after suspect Kashaad D. Johnson was reportedly threatening a motorist with a firearm and fled from police, causing a short pursuit by officers.

Carbondale police responded to the 400 block of East Ashley Street around 6:55 p.m. on April 7, where a victim reported being threatened by a group of males, some armed. Officers arriving at the scene saw a suspect, identified as Kashaad D. Johnson, displaying a firearm during an argument with a driver.

Johnson fled on foot but was apprehended after a short pursuit. Police recovered the firearm he was carrying.

During the investigation, witnesses directed officers to a residence where Johnson and other suspects had allegedly gone. While police did not find the other suspects, they recovered a large amount of firearm ammunition in the home.

Johnson was arrested on charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, and resisting a peace officer. He is being held in the Jackson County Jail awaiting a detention hearing.
