Carbondale police arrest juvenile in weapons investigation

CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — A 16-year-old male was arrested Tuesday night after police say he unlawfully discharged a firearm inside a residence on South Emerald Lane.

According to the Carbondale Police Department, officers responded to the 200 block of South Emerald Lane at 11:09 p.m. on Oct. 14 for a report of shots fired. Investigators determined the juvenile fired multiple rounds inside his home, damaging property but causing no injuries.

The suspect fled the residence on foot but returned as officers arrived. He was arrested and charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, reckless discharge of a firearm, and possession of a firearm without a Firearm Owner’s Identification Card.

The juvenile was transported to the Jackson County Jail pending transfer to a juvenile detention facility.

In accordance with the Illinois Juvenile Justice Act, the suspect’s name will not be released.
