Carbondale police arrest man after foot chase, recover loaded firearm

CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) – A man was arrested early Sunday after officers said he was found with a firearm inside a Carbondale business, according to the City of Carbondale Police Department.
Police said an officer was inside a business in the 700 block of East Grand Avenue around 2:19 a.m. May 3, 2026, when he saw a person with a firearm in his waistband. When the officer approached, the man fled.
Officers apprehended the suspect after a brief foot chase and identified him as Damarion Ja Shean Williams, 21, of Sparta, Illinois. Authorities said he was found in possession of a loaded firearm without lawful authority.
Williams was arrested on charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and resisting a peace officer. He was taken to the Jackson County Jail pending a detention hearing.
