Carbondale police arrest man wanted in South Carolina on weapons, cannabis charges

CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — A Cobden man wanted in South Carolina was arrested Tuesday night following a traffic stop in Carbondale, police said.

Officers stopped a vehicle driven by Braden A. Dunbar, 24, around 9 p.m. Aug. 26 in the 400 block of East Walnut Street, according to the Carbondale Police Department. Police determined Dunbar had an active arrest warrant out of South Carolina for criminal sexual conduct.

During the arrest, officers said they found Dunbar in possession of a firearm and an illegal amount of suspected cannabis. He was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a weapon by a felon and unlawful possession of adult-use cannabis.

Dunbar was taken to the Jackson County Jail pending a detention hearing. The investigation remains ongoing.
