Carbondale police arrest suspect in connection with armed robberies

CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — Police continued investigating two armed robberies reported Jan. 12 and 17 involving delivery drivers near South Illinois Avenue.

A search warrant executed Feb. 14 at a nearby residence uncovered evidence and led to the arrest of Oquant K. Gails, 19, of Carbondale, on two counts of armed robbery.

Gails is being held at the Jackson County Jail pending a detention hearing. Additional charges may follow.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and State’s Attorney’s Office assisted in the investigation. Authorities encourage anyone with information to contact the Carbondale Police Department at (618) 549-2121 or Crime Stoppers at (618) 549-COPS (2677).
