Carbondale Police arrest suspect in shooting incident

CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — Police responded to reports of gunfire in the 400 block of South Lake Heights on March 11, 2025, at 7:40 p.m.

Multiple callers reported hearing shots, and officers found a juvenile male with a minor gunshot wound. The wound was treated at the scene, and the victim didn’t require further hospital treatment.

During the investigation, detectives identified Kionte Scott, 19, of Chicago, as a suspect. Scott was arrested for aggravated discharge of a firearm and taken to the Jackson County Jail pending a detention hearing.

The incident is believed to have resulted from a dispute between acquaintances. Three black males wearing dark clothing were seen fleeing the area on foot after the shooting.
