Carbondale Police Department announces leadership transition

CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) – Carbondale Police Chief and City Manager Stan Reno has announced the appointment of Deputy Chief Anthony Williams as Acting Chief of Police, effective January 31, 2025. This move comes as Reno transitions into his permanent role as City Manager.

A nationwide search will soon commence to find a permanent replacement for the position.

In the meantime, Chief Reno will continue to serve as Chief of Police, while Deputy Chief Williams assumes increased day-to-day responsibilities.

Deputy Chief Williams brings over two decades of experience and leadership to his new role. He joined the Carbondale Police Department in 2001 and has since served in various capacities, including patrol shifts, detective roles, and leadership positions.

His career highlights include leading the Street Crimes Unit, supervising patrol shifts, and overseeing training and recruiting as Support Services Commander. Williams holds a bachelor’s degree from SIU Carbondale and has received multiple awards for his service, including being named Officer of the Year twice by the Carbondale Police Department.

“Deputy Chief Williams is an outstanding leader who has demonstrated a strong commitment to the Carbondale community,” Chief Reno said. “I have full confidence that he will continue to guide the department with integrity and professionalism.”
