CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — Police are investigating two reports of shots fired Tuesday in the same area of west Carbondale, authorities said.

City of Carbondale police officers responded at about 3:52 p.m. Dec. 23, 2025, to the 700 block of West College Street following a report of gunfire. Officers searched the area but did not locate any suspects or find evidence of property damage at that time.

A witness reported seeing an unknown male wearing dark-colored clothing and a ski mask running westbound around the time the shots were heard. Officers spoke with nearby residents but were unable to obtain additional information.

Later that evening, shortly before 10 p.m., officers responded to a second report of shots fired in the same general area.

While officers were unable to determine the source of the gunfire, investigators discovered damage to a nearby building consistent with bullet strikes. No injuries were reported in either incident.

The City of Carbondale Police Department is asking residents in the area who have home video security systems and were unable to speak with officers at the time to review their footage from the reported time frames.
