Man arrested after police say he threw bag on roof, led Carbondale police on chase

CARBONDALE, Ill. (KBSI) – Carbondale police officers investigated an incident in the 500 and 600 blocks of South Illinois on Tuesday.

Officers responded to a man with a gun at 11 a.m. off South Illinois Avenue.

When police made contact with the suspect, they say he took off on foot.

When officers caught up to the man, they arrested him.

He is identified at Khalil Pemberton.

Officers say they found a bag Pemberton threw on the roof of a business during the chase, but did not find the firearm.

A public alert was sent out Tuesday morning due to the amount of police presence in the area.

Pemberton faces a charge of obstructing a peace officer.

The investigation continues.
