Carbondale police respond to report of armed dispute; no injuries reported

CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — On Oct. 20, 2025, at 10:09 a.m., Carbondale Police officers responded to the 200 block of North Wall Street for a report of a dispute between two acquaintances.

During the altercation, the suspect allegedly pointed a firearm at the victim. Before officers arrived, the suspect left the area and entered a vacant building in the 500 block of East Jackson Street.

Because of the seriousness of the situation, officers established a perimeter and began negotiating with the suspect. The individual eventually exited the building and was detained without further incident.

No firearm was recovered, and no injuries were reported. The suspect’s name has not been released, as no arrest was made.

A CivicReady alert was issued, asking residents to avoid the area during the investigation. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department and Carbondale United assisted at the scene.
