Carbondale police seek suspect, investigate battery incident

Carbondale, Ill., (KBSI) — City police are investigating a battery incident that occurred on March 4, 2025, in the 600 block of South Illinois Avenue.
At 11:33 p.m., officers responded to a report of a battery and found the victim unconscious with serious injuries. The victim was transported to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale for treatment.
Following an investigation, police identified three suspects: James M. Shannahan, 19, of Carbondale; Chanton L. Lee, 21, of Elizabethtown, Ill.; and a 17-year-old juvenile male from Carbondale.
Shannahan and the juvenile suspect were arrested and charged. Shannahan faces charges of mob action and aggravated battery, while the juvenile is charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and aggravated battery.
A warrant has been issued for Lee’s arrest on charges of mob action and aggravated battery. His whereabouts are currently unknown.
