Carbondale reminds residents of solicitation guidelines
CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — The City of Carbondale is reminding residents of its solicitation guidelines and offering tips on how to interact with door-to-door solicitors.
Solicitors are required to obtain a permit from the city and undergo a criminal background check. However, a valid permit does not imply city endorsement of the company or product being sold.
Residents are advised to verify a solicitor’s permit and be cautious of aggressive or deceptive tactics. Residents can file complaints with the City Clerk’s Office or contact the Police Department if they feel threatened.
The city also warns residents to be wary of alternative energy suppliers and to never provide utility account information to solicitors.
Residents can prevent solicitors from visiting their homes by displaying a “no soliciting” sign or notice.
