Carbondale shares shelter information ahead of winter weather

CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — As the National Weather Service forecasts potentially hazardous winter weather this weekend, the City of Carbondale is sharing information about local shelters and resource centers available to residents.
City officials said the information is being released separately to ensure the public can easily access details about shelter locations and services during winter weather.
The following shelters and resource centers are available within Carbondale:
Good Samaritan House

Open 24 hours a day
The shelter provides food, housing, clothing and supplies when available. A cold-weather policy allowing additional overnight guests is in effect when temperatures fall to 32 degrees or below. Donations of toiletries, socks, coats and canned goods are accepted. Residents are encouraged to call ahead regarding availability and donation drop-offs.
Carbondale Warming Center

Open Friday through Monday from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.
Services include food, shelter, clothing and supplies when available. The center is seeking donations of paper products and coffee, as well as volunteers.

Services include showers, laundry, clothing, snacks, hot coffee, peer recovery support, assistance obtaining identification and referrals to additional resources.
City officials said residents seeking shelter services should contact individual facilities directly for the most up-to-date information.
