Carbondale suspect arrested, charged for arson

CARBONDALE, Ill. (KBSI) – A suspect is in custody after police and the Carbondale Fire Department responded to a fire on August 6.
At approximately 12:30 a.m., law enforcement responded to a fire on the 900 block of West Sycamore Street. According to police, the building was vacant and no injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire was determined to be arson.
Mylena G. Fruits, 35, of Carbondale faces charges of criminal damage to property by arson and criminal damage to property.
Fruits was taken to the Jackson County Jail. The investigation is active and ongoing.
