Carbondale to continue sewer main lining project in Lakeland Hills neighborhood

FOX23 News at 9 p.m.

CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — The City of Carbondale announced that sewer main lining work will continue the week of Oct. 13 in the Lakeland Hills Subdivision, including the area bounded by Larsue Lane, Glopen Street, South Giant City Road, and Vercliff Drive.

The project follows earlier work in which main sewer lines were cleaned, repaired, and permanently lined. The next phase involves rehabilitating individual sewer service connections with permanent lateral liners that connect to the newly lined mains. This process uses trenchless technology and does not require excavation.

Skuta Construction will serve as the contractor for the project.

City officials advised that steam and chemical odors are normal during the procedure. Residents are encouraged to fill all plumbing P-traps by running water through any rarely used drains to prevent odors from entering their homes.

Short service interruptions may occur between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. during the lateral lining process, though unplanned outages are possible. Door hangers will be distributed to ensure all affected residents are notified.

For questions, residents can contact the City of Carbondale Utilities Department at 618-457-3240 ext. 1 between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. For emergencies outside of business hours, call the 24-hour Water & Sewer Hotline at 618-529-1731 ext. 6.

City officials thanked residents for their patience as the improvements are made to enhance neighborhood sewer services.
