CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — The Carbondale Warming Center will operate 24 hours a day over the next several days as severe winter weather and dangerous cold temperatures impact the region, city officials said.

Staff and volunteers will continue assisting those who seek shelter, providing warmth, safety and support during the period of extreme cold. Space at the center is limited and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Community members seeking additional information may contact the warming center at 314-312-2539 or by email at warmth.welcome@gmail.com.

The center is also requesting donations of coffee, cocoa, soup and snacks to help meet increased demand during the weather emergency. Officials said community contributions play a vital role in keeping residents safe.

The city encourages the public to use caution when traveling outdoors during the severe weather.
