Carbondale Warming Center to host fundraiser
CARBONDALE, Ill. (KBSI) – This weekend, it’s time for the Coldest Night of the Year…well, the family-friendly walk that is.
The walk is a fundraiser that organizations across the country partake to get the body moving and help raise money for local charities serving people experiencing hurt, hunger, and homelessness.
And, for the first time ever, the Carbondale Warming Center is taking part in the event. The organization has raised $15,000 of its $20,000 goal.
Carmalita Cahill, executive director of the Carbondale Warming Center, says this fundraiser brings people together from across the country.
“We’re all human and by taking this 2K or 5K on an evening in February, wherever you are, shows that you’re willing to take that time and take that step into empathy and walk the road and the walk in the shoes that somebody else does every day; and there is something about that collective unity,” said Cahill.
The walk is on Feb. 25 and 4 p.m. is check-in with a 5 p.m. start.
