Carbondale’s old Amtrak station demolished with sustainable approach
CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — The old Amtrak station in Carbondale is being demolished, but with a focus on sustainability.
Nearly all materials from the demolition, including brick, concrete and steel, are being recycled or reused, with minimal waste sent to the landfill.
The careful deconstruction is part of the city’s effort to achieve LEED Silver Certification, a national standard for sustainable building practices.
