BARDWELL, Ky., (KBSI) — A Bardwell woman was arrested Tuesday after investigators said she admitted fabricating a report of sexual assault, according to the Carlisle County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were dispatched May 12 to the Bardwell post office after a woman requested employees contact law enforcement to report she had been sexually assaulted.

The sheriff’s office identified the woman as Courtney Link. Authorities said Link was transported to the sheriff’s office and interviewed by Chief Deputy Ben Green regarding the alleged assault, which she claimed occurred the previous day at her residence.

During the investigation, Link allowed investigators to inspect her cellphone, according to the sheriff’s office.

Investigators said deleted text messages found on the device contradicted her statements to law enforcement.

Authorities said Link later admitted she fabricated the allegation because she was upset over a pending eviction from her residence.

Link was arrested and charged with falsely reporting an incident to law enforcement and tampering with physical evidence.

She was transported to the Ballard County Jail.

The charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
