Carrier Mills woman charged after three dogs die during July heatwave

CARRIER MILLS, Ill. (KBSI) — A Carrier Mills woman is facing felony and misdemeanor charges after authorities say three dogs were abandoned during a July heatwave and later died.

According to the Carrier Mills Police Department, 34-year-old Katherine L. Hodges has been charged with one felony count of obstructing justice and three misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty.

Police allege Hodges was responsible for three dogs that were abandoned and left to fend for themselves during the extreme heat. Authorities said all three dogs died.

Hodges is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
