Cedric the Entertainer reflects on growing up in southeast Missouri ahead of benefit show in Cape Girardeau
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – “I want people to know that yes, I will be in the house, and you will have a good time, and it’s going to be worth your trip.”
That’s the promise from Cedric the Entertainer himself, talking about his upcoming benefit show at the Show Me Center.
Cedric said having grown up in the area, he hopes to resonate with the audience on a personal level.
“The fact that I do have so many little things to say about the area and things that are my experiences, hopefully some of these things will really ring true with the audience and I’ll hit some familiar buttons that will make people go, ‘oh yeah, he definitely knows what he’s talking about,” he said.
He said he tries to stay connected to the university as much as possible even while in Hollywood.
“We still do a scholarship program with the university, so it’s often that I get to talk to some of the administrators at the university about what’s going on at the school,” he said.
Cedric even interned at KBSI FOX23 for a time, and he said that internship helped teach him the ins and outs of the television industry.
“Especially with someone who thinks creatively, you know, you’re young, you don’t know what it is that you really want to do, but the idea of seeing how an actual television station works, the ins and outs, the back, programming, the timing,” he said.
The show is called a night with Cedric the Entertainer. It will be March 23 at 7:30 pm. Tap here to purchase tickets.
