Charred human remains found in burned truck in New Madrid County

NEW MADRID COUNTY, Mo. (KBSI) – An autopsy was scheduled for Monday after charred human remains were found in a burned truck in New Madrid County Sunday morning.

The New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department received a call of a vehicle on fire in a field near County Road 725 at 6:43 a.m. on Sunday, April 2.

New Madrid County Sheriff’s deputies found a burned truck containing charred human remains.

The SEMO Major Case Squad was activated and conducted numerous interviews. Investigators and Missouri State Fire Marshals processed the scene.

An autopsy was scheduled for Monday, April 3 at 9:30 a.m..

Identification of the body is pending the autopsy.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol, Missouri State Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control, New Madrid County Coroner’s Office, Scott County Sheriff’s Office, Sikeston Department of Public Safety, New Madrid City Police Department and Missouri State Fire Marshal’s Office assisted in the investigation.
