Chester schools evacuated during incident; classes to resume Wednesday

CHESTER, Ill. (KBSI) — Officials with Chester Community Unit School District 139 thanked emergency responders and the community after what the district described as a serious incident Tuesday that required the evacuation of a school facility.
District officials said emergency personnel responded quickly and coordinated with Chester High School and district administration, allowing staff to implement the district’s emergency plan and safely evacuate the building.
School leaders also thanked students, staff, families and community members for their patience and cooperation during the response.
Officials said the facilities have since been cleared.
All after-school activities will continue as scheduled, and classes will resume Wednesday, March 4, according to the district.
District officials said the safety of students and staff remains their top priority.
