Chicago man arrested in Carbondale after police chase

CARBONDALE, Ill. (KBSI) – A Chicago man faces firearms charges after Carbondale police were called about a man with a gun.

Police officers responded to the 300 block of East Walnut Street in Carbondale on Jan. 4 at 10:51 a.m. for a report of a man with a gun.

When the officers arrived, the suspect entered the passenger seat of a black Cadillac and left the scene.

Officers chased the vehicle until police say it briefly stopped in the 900 block of East Grand Avenue and the passenger, later identified as Kadeem L Hunter, 29, of Chicago, got out of the vehicle carrying a firearm.

The driver of the vehicle continued to flee and was last seen heading north on Lewis Lane, according to police.

Officers arrested Hunter after a foot chase and recovered the firearm.

Hunter faces charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and resisting a peace officer.

He was taken to the Jackson County Jail.
