Church fire leads to arson arrest

CARBONDALE, Ill. (KBSI) – An ongoing Arson investigation leads to arrest.

On July 27th, 2023, at around 7:35 p.m., City of Carbondale police officers and detectives served a search warrant at a residence in the 500 block of West Kennicott Street.

Detectives located Ramil D. Mize, 35 years old of Carbondale in the residence and arrested him on the warrant.

Carbondale Police detectives and arson investigators with the Carbondale Fire Department launched an investigation of a suspicious fire that burned a vacant church building at 218 W. Walnut on February 6th, 2023.

During the course of the investigation, they found Ramil D. Mize, of Carbondale as a suspect in setting the fire, which was determined to be arson.

Mize was incarcerated in the Jackson County jail.

The investigation into the incident is active and ongoing.
