Church Women United announces 49th Annual Sale to Fight Hunger

CARBONDALE, Il. (KBSI)- Church Women United announces the 49th annual Sale to Fight Hunger.

The giant yard sale will be held Friday, April 26 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, April 27 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the University Mall.

A silent auction begins Friday and ends Saturday at 11 a.m. The community has supported this sale since 1975, raising over $250,000.

Proceeds go to organizations and agencies that feed hungry people, and at least 80% of the proceeds remain in our community.

Donations are needed of usable items of all sorts, including household items, electronics, furniture, books, toys, jewelry, and clothing.

Volunteers cannot accept major appliances or mattresses. Donations may be dropped off at the University Mall on Tues. April 23 from 10 -3, Wed. April 24 from 10-6, and Thurs. April 25 from 10 – 1 (no clothing accepted on Thursday).

Volunteers are needed to transport tables and clothing racks, to unload donations delivered to the University Mall parking lot, to sort and display donations, to provide items for the bake sale, and to pack and distribute unsold merchandise at the end of the sale.

Sign-up sheets will be available; volunteers should plan to work at least a two-hour shift. To volunteer or donate, contact Katie Carl at (618) 925-2252.
