Citizens Academy gets a tour of the Wastewater Treatment Facility

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI)- Ever wonder where your water is coming from?

This week the Citizens Academy for the City of Cape started with a tour of the Wastewater Treatment Facility.

“The overall should develop an appreciation for how we get clean water.”

Todd Fulton, the City Plant Manager for the treatment center gave the tour to a couple groups of citizens. Teaching them how the facility operates. “So, the tour, it takes about an hour, and it gives a pretty in depth, overview of what we do here in wastewater treatment.” Says Fulton.
The water treatment facility was built in 2014 and has been in operation ever since.

Fulton adds, “Treating the wastewater as it leaves your house, and it comes through the facility and then ultimately is discharged to the Mississippi river, and a portion of that is converted into a fertilizer by the state of Missouri.”

Nancy Uzaru joined the Citizens Academy and when she heard about the opportunity to tour the treatment facility, she jumped at the offer and encourages others to do the same, “I would just encourage everybody to take the time, to get involved with their communities so that we can support it in a better way.”
Citizens Academy will continue for the next couple of weeks, and sign-ups will be offered again next fall.
