City makes progress in repairing Cape Rock Water Treatment Plant

City of Cape (KBSI)

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — City engineers have made significant progress in addressing the issue at the Cape Rock Water Treatment Plant, which had threatened to impact the city’s water capacity as summer approaches.

The city’s water supply remains unaffected by the breakdown and repairs, meeting or exceeding all state regulatory standards, officials said.

Custom-designed replacement components will soon be installed in Clarifier 1, restoring a substantial portion of the plant’s production capacity. The solution was developed through a collaborative effort involving city staff, Alliance Water Resources, consulting engineers and industry specialists.

Assistant City Manager Trevor Pulley said the city is hopeful that Clarifier 1 could be repaired in the coming weeks, before water demand increases in May.

The team is also evaluating the condition of Clarifier 2 to determine whether similar repairs are necessary.

The repair work will be closely monitored to ensure continued operational reliability.

While the restoration of clarifiers will improve plant operations, long-term concerns remain regarding the overall treatment and distribution system.

City leaders are refining plans to secure funding for necessary improvements, including the replacement of critical infrastructure components and the addition of a fourth clarifier.
