City of Cape to give $6,000 for some new employees

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KBSI) – The City of Cape Girardeau is looking for new applicants and is willing to pay a little extra to hire them.

Over a three year period a $6,000 certification will be paid to the workers hired at the fire station, police department and public works department.

Kenneth Haskin, manager for the City of Cape Girardeau, is excited for the narrative.

“I’ve been hearing from staff just how difficult it is to attract quality people in the organization,” said Kenneth Haskin, city manager for Cape Girardeau. “So I started thinking back on a similar time in my past when I worked in another city and I decided that this was the route to take and we’re excited about this incentive plan it’s a $6000 sign on bonus. I refer to it as a sign of bonus because overall we believe that that it is an incentive for police, for fire and also for CDL drivers that work in the public works department those are three areas where we noticed most of our leakage and it’s an area that we need to try to cheer up as quickly as possible.”

The compensation for full time employees includes a retirement pension plan, paid holidays, paid vacation leave, a benefit package for health, dental, vision, life insurance, paid sick leave and more.

Voters passed the Use Tax 2021. Use Tax is a tax on purchases made outside one’s state of residence for taxable items that will be used, stored or consumed in a person’s state of residence and no tax was collected in the state of purchase.
