City of Carbondale to host Carbondale game changers event honoring Jackie Robinson’s legacy

CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — The City of Carbondale will host Carbondale Game Changers, a family-friendly event celebrating Jackie Robinson’s life and legacy, on June 29 at MTN Dew Park.

The event is part of the Freedom to Freedom Juneteenth Celebration Series and aims to educate local youth about Robinson’s historic achievements in breaking Major League Baseball’s color barrier in 1947.

The event will feature a baseball game between the Thrillville Thrillbillies and the Danville Dans, as well as activities encouraging youth to “swing big, dream bigger” and make a positive impact in their community.

Carbondale Game Changers is supported by Healing Illinois, a racial healing initiative of the Illinois Department of Human Services.
