JACKSON, Mo., (KBSI) — City officials are warning residents about scam robocalls that are spoofing the City Hall phone number, according to the City of Jackson.
Officials said the fraudulent calls appear to come from the City Hall number, 573-243-3568, but are not legitimate.
The city emphasized that it will never demand payment, gift cards, cryptocurrency or personal information over the phone. Officials also said that if a city employee attempts to contact a resident by phone, a voicemail will be left.
Residents who receive a call claiming to be from the city are advised to hang up and use an official city phone number to call back and verify the call. Officials warned that scammers often create a sense of urgency or claim an emergency to pressure victims into acting quickly.
City officials encouraged residents to share the alert to help protect friends, family and neighbors.
