PERRYVILLE, Mo., (KBSI) — Firefighters quickly extinguished a car fire in the Dollar General parking lot that threatened to spread to nearby propane tanks.

The propane tanks locked up outside the Dollar General can be a recipe for disaster when a car fire happens just feet away from the tanks.

Around 11:20 Tuesday morning a car fire started in the Perryville Dollar General parking lot with one woman and dog in the vehicle. The car was parked outside near the propane tanks and the Perryville Fire Department arrived on scene in the matter of minutes.

No one was told to evacuate the Dollar General as the Perryville Fire crew extinguished the car just moments later. Assistant Chief Garrett Schott with Perryville Fire Department tells what happened when fire personnel arrived.

“Our assistant, chief who works full-time was able to get to the scene within a couple of minutes. He was able to hook up with his truck in a tow rope to the vehicle to get it away from the building. our trucks arrived in about 3 to 4 minutes and began fire suppression right away,” said Schott.

The car was towed away by the owner and is no longer drivable.

No injuries were reported.

The Perryville Fire Department say they work diligently and quickly in cases like this to prevent what could have been a blown-up situation. They are not sharing any names of the car owner at this time.
