CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — Community Counseling Center employees raised more than $350 and collected 230 pounds of food during Canned Food Awareness Month to support efforts to combat hunger in southeast Missouri.
The organization partnered with the Southeast Missouri Food Bank to help address food insecurity in the counties it serves. Donations were recently delivered to the food bank by Community Counseling Center CEO Wendy Ice and Director of Public Relations and Marketing Crystal Lyerla.
According to the food bank, about one in six families in the region experiences food insecurity. Officials said donations like those collected by Community Counseling Center help the organization distribute more than 1 million pounds of food each month to individuals and families in need.
Community Counseling Center officials thanked employees and community members who contributed to the effort, as well as the Southeast Missouri Food Bank staff for their continued work addressing hunger in the region.
