Community Counseling Center offering suicide bereavement group
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – The Community Counseling Center is offering a suicide bereavement group.
Shawni Miller is the emergency services supervisor for the Community Counseling Center.
She says losing a loved one to suicide can leave a big impact on lived ones emotionally, and often there’s a lot of unanswered questions.
This is where the support group comes in.
“We’re going to do it virtually because we do cover five counties,” said Miller. “Even though everyone is welcome to attend this group but that was kind of our thinking that we would initially start it with virtual. We’re doing it the third Wednesday of every month at 6 p.m. so everybody has time to get off work. It’ll go for about an hour and we’ll have two counselors that are going to be there facilitating those conversations and just helping individuals really process that loss and that grief because. It is very unique when you have the loss of a loved one to suicide.”
The Community Counseling Center will provide instructions on how to virtually connect to the zoom sessions.
Currently in a crisis, dial 988.
