Community invited to welcome home veterans on May 6
MARION, Ill., (KBSI) — The public is invited to attend a Welcome Home celebration for 89 veterans returning from a day-long trip to Washington D.C. on May 6.
The event will be held at the Veterans Airport of Southern Illinois, beginning at 5 p.m. with food, entertainment and a kid’s zone.
The veterans, who are part of the Honor Flight program, are expected to arrive at the airport at 8:45 p.m., when a welcome home ceremony will take place.
Parking is limited at the airport, and attendees are encouraged to use a park-and-ride service from Sam’s Club/Cornerstone Church in Marion.
The event is organized by the Welcome Home Committee, which has been planning the celebration for several months.
Veterans Honor Flight of Southern Illinois is a nonprofit organization that provides the day-long trip to Washington D.C. free of charge to veterans.
