Community rallies around barrel racing trainer battling cancer

JACKSON, Mo., (KBSI) – Horses and riders gathered this weekend at Flickerwood Arena in Jackson not just for a barrel race, but to show support for a beloved trainer facing the fight of her life.

Marne Loosenort, a well-known barrel horse trainer, was diagnosed with stage 3 cervical cancer nearly four weeks ago. Now, her family, friends, and sponsors are coming together to do what she loves most—barrel race—in her honor.

“She’s a very humble person,” said Danny Kingins, Loosenort’s longtime partner in barrel racing. “She’s certainly one of the best barrel horse trainers in the country. She’s worked with youth riders, college rodeo competitors, and Little Britches rodeo athletes. She trains, hosts clinics, and supports young people learning the sport.”

Kingins, who has partnered with Loosenort for more than 25 years, said the weekend event is not only about the competition. All proceeds from the event, including a silent auction and merchandise sales, will help cover Loosenort’s medical treatments.

“She’s always supported others,” Kingins said. “Now, it’s time for us to support her. The outpouring of love shows just how much she’s done for this community.”

T-shirts featuring Loosenort’s slogan, “No Fights Alone,” were seen throughout the arena. Sponsorships from companies like Prime Performance Nutrition also played a key role in the fundraiser.

“As soon as we found out what was going on, we stepped up,” said Jeff Butler, a sponsor and close friend. “The horse community is unique in how quickly it bands together. Today’s turnout is just one example of that.”

Loosenort is currently undergoing treatment at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. While the exact amount raised over the weekend is not yet known, her family says the event was never about the money.

“It’s about the love and support,” said a family spokesperson. “That’s what’s mattered most over these last four weeks.”
