PERRY COUNTY, Mo., (KBSI) — U.S. Rep. Jason Smith recently visited a Perry County farm to discuss challenges facing livestock producers in Missouri.
Smith toured Neil and Michelle Franke’s cattle operation, which has about 500 head of cattle. According to Smith, the property has been in the Franke family since the late 1800s.
During the visit, Smith said they discussed regulatory and insurance challenges affecting livestock producers and ways the federal government could support Missouri farmers.
Smith also highlighted agriculture-related provisions included in federal tax legislation passed last year, including making the 20% small-business deduction permanent and allowing farmers to immediately expense the cost of new equipment.
Smith represents Missouri’s 8th Congressional District, which includes Perry County.
