Court hearing set for Monday in Cape Girardeau shooting case

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — A 27-year-old Cape Girardeau woman has been charged in connection with the shooting death of another woman.

A fatal shooting occurred on May 9, 2025, in the area of Whitener and Louisiana in Cape Girardeau.

Officers responded to a report of shots fired with a subject hit. Upon arrival, they found Deandra Patterson with a gunshot wound to her lower right side. Patterson was transported to Saint Francis Medical Center.

During the investigation, a second subject was located at Mercy Southeast Hospital with at least one gunshot wound to the upper torso. The victim was later pronounced deceased due to the gunshot wound.

Witnesses reported that the victim and Patterson had agreed to meet and fight. The witnesses stated that the fight occurred near the intersection of Whitener and Louisiana, and that Patterson was given a firearm by another witness after the fight.

Patterson allegedly fired the gun, striking the victim. Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots.

Deandra Leeann Patterson was charged with second-degree murder, armed criminal action and unlawful possession of a firearm. She is being held on a $1 million cash-only bond.

Patterson is scheduled to appear in Cape Girardeau County court on Monday at 2:29 p.m.
