Crews respond to early morning house fire in Woodlawn

WOODLAWN, Ill. — Firefighters responded to a residential structure fire early Monday morning, rescuing the residents and containing the blaze.

The fire was reported at 5:45 a.m. in a home between Woodlawn and Waltonville. Jefferson County deputies arrived first and helped evacuate the residents.

Firefighters from Woodlawn and mutual aid companies from Mt. Vernon, Waltonville, Jefferson and Centralia districts responded to the scene. Crews were able to extinguish the fire, which had spread from a shed to an attached garage, and prevent it from entering the house.

Emergency medical services and ambulance crews stood by at the scene. Firefighters remained on scene for about two hours before clearing.

The Woodlawn Fire Department expressed gratitude to its mutual aid partners and all agencies involved in responding to the incident.
