Cyclist dies after vehicle strike in Jackson County

JACKSON COUNTY, Ill., (KBSI) — A bicyclist died after being struck by a vehicle Monday night at the intersection of Old U.S. 51 and Cedar Creek Road, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said the crash occurred around 8:30 p.m. Emergency crews found the bicyclist unresponsive, and CPR was in progress. The Jackson County Coroner’s Office later pronounced the individual dead.
The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of relatives.
Authorities said the driver, a 49-year-old Makanda resident, has not been cited.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Jackson County Ambulance Service and the Makanda Fire Department.
