CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — Community Counseling Center announced its second annual Thriving Together Community Behavioral Health + Wellness Conference will be held July 22 at the Show Me Center in Cape Girardeau.

The free, one-day conference is open to the public and geared toward community members and professionals outside the behavioral health field. The event is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Organizers said the conference will focus on topics including mental health, substance use, suicide prevention, family dynamics, resilience and overall wellness. Attendees will hear from keynote speakers Darryl Strawberry and Bobby Henline, participate in breakout sessions and receive tools and resources related to behavioral health and wellness.

Strawberry, a former Major League Baseball player, is an eight-time All-Star and four-time World Series champion who now speaks about recovery, faith and personal growth.

Henline, a retired U.S. Army staff sergeant, survived an IED explosion during his military service in Iraq and now shares messages centered on resilience and healing.

“Last year’s inaugural Thriving Together conference exceeded every expectation we had with more than 400 community members joining us for a day that sparked real conversations about mental health and wellness,” Community Counseling Center CEO Wendy Ice said in a statement. “We’re honored to bring the community back together for a second year, and with voices as powerful as Darryl Strawberry and Bobby Henline on stage, we believe this year’s conference will leave an even greater impact.”

Admission is free, but registration is required due to limited seating. More information and registration details are available through Community Counseling Center.
