Deadly crash in Franklin County

FRANKLIN COUNTY Ill. (KBSI) – A deadly vehicle crash in Franklin County has left one person dead.
According to Franklin County Sheriff’s Office on December 10, 2024 at approximately 10:30 pm the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a two-vehicle crash on State Highway 37 at the intersection of Ewing Road. It was also reported that one of the vehicles involved was on fire.
Deputies immediately responded to the call.
Upon arrival to the crash scene, deputies determined that a semi-truck and trailer combination were southbound on State Highway 37, stopped, and preparing to turn east onto Ewing Road.
Prior to making the turn, the semi-trailer was struck in the rear by a southbound passenger vehicle.
As a result of the collision, the passenger vehicle caught fire.
Two passerby’s who observed the crash were able to remove the driver and only occupant from the passenger vehicle, however, she had sustained significant injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.
She was identified as Angela L. Byrley age 54 of Buckner.
The occupants of the semi-truck were not injured.
The crash is being investigated by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Illinois State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit, and the Franklin County Coroner’s Office.
