Deputies investigate widespread mailbox damage, sign thefts in Graves County

GRAVES COUNTY, Ky., (KBSI) — The Graves County Sheriff’s Office is investigating widespread property damage reported across the county over the weekend.

Shortly after 3 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, a resident on Rozzell Church Road reported that a vehicle had struck and destroyed his mailbox. Responding deputies found additional mailbox damage along Rozzell Church Road, Old Dublin Road, New Dublin Road, Kentucky 384, Kentucky 1748 and other nearby roads.

Investigators believe the damage was intentional. Deputies recovered vehicle debris from the affected areas, including grille pieces, headlight parts and paint transfers.

Surveillance video and the recovered parts led investigators to identify the vehicle as a silver 2008 Dodge Ram, according to the sheriff’s office.

Investigators interviewed people connected to the case and identified a suspected driver. Deputies located the truck Monday, Sept. 14, at a home on Kingston Road in southern Graves County and impounded it as evidence. The sheriff’s office said the vehicle’s owner declined to provide information to detectives.

Additional interviews led investigators to discover damaged and stolen road signs along Kingston, Bard and Lawrence roads.

Sheriff Jon Hayden said the damage created unexpected expenses and stress for homeowners. He said no crashes were reported at intersections where stop signs had been knocked down.

The investigation remains ongoing. Deputy Drew Prusaczyk is leading the case.
