Deputy City Manager embraces time in Cape Girardeau

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI)- The Deputy City Manager of Cape Girardeau, Molly Mehner, has five weeks until her transition to city administrator for Collierville, Tenn.

“My time with the City of Cape has been phenomenal. It’s been a wonderful experience and I will treasure my almost nine years here with the city. Working with a phenomenal staff … very professional, dedicated staff and working on great projects to serve the citizens,” said Mehner.

Mehner’s time with the Cape Girardeau has been invaluable, working on projects such as helping to create a state-of-the-art City Hall complex that joined two historic structures from the 1850s and 1920s, with a modern twist.

Another accomplishment of Mehner’s is the introduction of the design build construction delivery method to Cape Girardeau. The Sportsplex project was the city’s first dive into design build.

Phil Penzel, CEO of Penzel Construction, who spent countless hours with Mehner on various projects, says Mehner’s progressive, out-of-the-box thinking seperates her from others.

“Molly is a great person to work with. I hate to see her leave the city. We have worked together on some fantastic projects such as the new City Hall project, [the] Sportsplex and Firehouse No. 4, to name a few.  She brought a lot of progressive thinking to our community. We certainly wish her the best in her new position.”

Public service for the city of Cape Girardeau is one of Mehner’s proud accomplishments — something on which she hangs her hat.

“I love Cape Girardeau, it’s been our home for quite some time. It’s a very special place and will always have a special place in our heart,” she said.

At this time, the City of Cape has no plans to fill the deputy city manager role.
