WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Ill., (KBSI) – A Williamson County Sheriff’s Office deputy used a patrol vehicle to move a burning car away from fuel pumps early Saturday, preventing a potential fire at a Marion gas station, authorities said.
The incident occurred at about 3:08 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, at a Circle K gas station near the intersection of Illinois Route 13 and Carbon Street. A deputy on patrol discovered a vehicle fully engulfed in flames near the fuel pumps.
Due to the immediate danger, the deputy was authorized to use the patrol vehicle’s push bumper to move the burning vehicle into the roadway, reducing the risk to the gas station and the public.
The vehicle was considered a total loss. No damage was reported to the gas station or fuel pumps.
The sheriff’s office recognized Sgt. Darren Ferrell, Sgt. Noah Warren, Cpl. Tyson Smith, Deputy Trey Waldrop and Deputy Gabriel Craig, along with other responding deputies, for their quick decision-making and coordinated response.
