Detour in place after wreck takes down power line in Cape Girardeau

Police ask that people avoid a section of northbound Mt. Auburn Rd until repairs are finished. Police said repairs could take 6 hours or longer.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – Cape Girardeau Police said a car wreck caused a power line to fall on the northbound side of Mt. Auburn Road late Wednesday night. The northbound side was shut down between Themis Street and Independence Street.

Crews put up detour signs directing drivers around the scene. Ameren crews are working to repair the line. According to the Ameren outage map, just over 400 homes lost power because of the power line damage. Ameren reports that they expect to have power back on to those homes by about 2 a.m. Thursday.

Police said the lane closure could last 6 hours or longer.

Police ask that you avoid the area and find an alternate route until repairs are complete. They have not yet said whether anyone was hurt in the wreck.
