DEXTER, Mo., (KBSI) — A Dexter man faces multiple charges after investigators allegedly discovered child sexual abuse material while investigating a reported child abuse and neglect case.

According to the Dexter Police Department, officers responded June 2 to a report concerning the welfare of a child. During the investigation, Detective Sgt. Jackson seized a cellphone belonging to a suspect at the residence.

Police obtained a search warrant for the device and conducted a forensic examination. Investigators said evidence found on the phone led to additional criminal charges.

The Stoddard County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Ronald N. Nehrkorn Jr., 27, of Dexter, with three counts of possession of child pornography, one count of sexual misconduct involving a child younger than 15 and one count of furnishing or attempting to furnish pornographic material to a minor.

Nehrkorn was arrested June 9 and is being held at the Stoddard County Jail on a no-bond warrant.

Police said the child abuse and neglect investigation remains active. Additional charges could be filed as investigators continue reviewing evidence and coordinating with prosecutors and partner agencies.

Nehrkorn is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
