Dexter PD K-9 handler on administrative leave after K-9 found dead inside kennel

DEXTER, Mo. (KBSI) – A K-9 handler at the Dexter Police Department is on adminstrative leave after the death of a K-9.
On Sunday, February 18, 2024, Dexter Police Department’s canine “Apollo” was found dead inside his kennel.
On Monday, February 19, a necropsy was performed at the Animal Health Clinic in Dexter.
Dexter Police Department and Stoddard County Sheriff’s Office requested the help of the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control to conduct and independent investigation.
The K-9 handler is on administrative leave pending an internal investigation and the investigation by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
