District 32 gets $22.4 million FEMA commitment for Perryville High School Recovery

PERRYVILLE, Mo. — Perry County School District 32 says it has received a $22.4 million commitment from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to help fund the recovery and rebuilding of Perryville High School.

The district learned Monday that FEMA approved the funding for the project.

The federal commitment is part of the district’s previously announced plan for a roughly $60 million construction project to rebuild Perryville High School.

District officials say $35 million will come from a recently approved Proposition K.I.D.S. levy increase. The remaining $25 million is expected to come from FEMA reimbursements, insurance proceeds and district funds.

Superintendent Dr. Fara Jones said the FEMA commitment validates the funding plan presented to the community ahead of the Proposition K.I.D.S. vote.

However, district officials emphasize the $22.4 million is not an immediate lump-sum payment.

Instead, FEMA funding will be provided through a reimbursement process as the district submits paid receipts for eligible construction expenses.

District officials say the reimbursement process will continue over the coming years as work on the new Perryville High School facility moves forward.

The district says the FEMA commitment gives it additional confidence as it moves ahead with plans to restore and rebuild Perryville High School.
