Doniphan man convicted of recording teen girl in bathroom
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — A southeastern Missouri man, Rayford Evans, 52, of Doniphan, was found guilty of attempted sexual exploitation of a minor by U.S. District Judge Audrey G. Fleissig on Tuesday.
Evans used his cellphone to record a 15-year-old girl while she bathed and used the bathroom, holding the phone up to a window above the bathroom door, according to evidence and testimony presented during the one-day bench trial.
The victim discovered the phone and notified a friend, the friend’s father and her own father, who contacted police. Evans will be sentenced later this year and faces 15 to 30 years in prison.
The FBI and Doniphan City Police Department investigated the case, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Julie Hunter prosecuting.
The case was part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
